Did you know that 2 out of every 3 smartphones worldwide have WhatsApp installed and actively running in them?
Data from www.statista.com shows that just about 1.5 billion smartphones have been made and shipped around the world since 2005 and according to Facebook Inc., the owner of Facebook, at least 1 billion people use WhatsApp every month.
Now I have a question for you: which mobile phone application did you first think about installing when you just bought the smartphone you are holding right now, was it the amazing NTVGO app?
Let’s face it; if SMS did not come first, it might have never seen the light of day. Today nearly every one of us that holds a smartphone in Uganda, East Africa and almost any other place outside China has WhatsApp installed and actually in use.
Much as majority of us love to think of the instant messenger as a merely a casual ‘chatting App’, smart marketers, sales people and entrepreneurs out there are already using the platform to win at business.
Digital savvy 21st century markers, salespeople and entrepreneurs use WhatsApp to acquire new customers, sell more to existing customers, get referrals, answer customer queries…. the opportunities are simply endless.
1: WhatsApp Broadcast lists
With the Broadcast List feature, you can send a message to several of your contacts at once. Broadcast Lists are saved lists of message recipients that you can repeatedly send broadcast messages to without having to select them each time.
When you send a message using broadcast lists, the recipients won’t see each other and every reply will come separate of the others. Read more about this in the next post.
2. WhatsApp Groups.
This is one of the most popular and most abused features of the App. If you are not in at least 2 WhatsApp Groups you are certainly not on WhatsApp, are you?
With the WhatsApp Group Chat feature you can chat with up to 256 people at once. It is a great way to stay in touch with your customers, family, friends and colleagues. All messages (including replies) sent through WhatsApp groups get seen by every member of the group.
More about how to market your business via groups without nagging people will be discussed in our next articles.
3. WhatsApp Profile
The profile feature is where you put your profile photo (previously called display picture) and a status that you can make visible to all members of the public, your contacts only or no one at all.
If you are marketing a business however, making your profile picture and status visible to only you are things you might not want to think about; a business is not a secret.
Other key features to take advantage of are: file sharing, audio messaging, and ‘free’ calls.
